The Difference Between an OHP and a GP
When Healthscreen UK receive a referral, we advise that the referrals are completed as soon as possible to enable the employees to work in a safe environment. We will get an OHP to look at the paperwork that Healthscreen UK already have from their initial screening and depending on the employer’s preference or depending on the type of referral it is, this could be a paper-based referral or a face to face appointment.
Healthscreen UK can also use an OHP to carry out Management Referrals.
The benefit of approaching an OHP rather than a GP is that an Occupational Health Professional will-be able to give more definitive advice on work related questions since their expertise lies in occupational medicine. A GP will only be able to advise on a personal level, they will not be able to advise on safety within the work place.
With a GP it is just cautionary and an OHP will deal with concerns that the employee may not be fit to undertake their duties but are still at work.
The main benefit in seeing an OHP rather than your own GP, is that an OHP will be able to advise how to keep employees safe within the workplace and recommend any restrictions that maybe necessary to keep the employee’s safe while at work. This could be from getting custom made hearing protection for Audio Referrals, to making sure that employees have the correct PPE fitted to protect their lungs or skin.
If you require any further information regarding the referral process, please contact Annmarie in the referrals department 01455 234600 option 1.
